My story

My little cottage industry started in 1993 a few years after we moved from Sweden to Memphis, TN. I had just had my fourth child Mats and my hobby at the time was knitting. The demand for my oversized mohair sweaters got my business idea going. When I made the little stocking cap that looked like a real strawberry, the seed was planted to grow the rest of my garden inspired designs! With the support of my husband Paul and our four children other berry designs, apples, kiwis, eggplants, and the number one best seller, the Sweet Pea were created!.

Our kitchen on Silverthorn Cove became the heart of the business and soon we became popular enough to look for knitters outside of Memphis. Today we have made more than 500 styles and work with about 10 fulltime knitters, ‘leaf backers’, ‘pea painters’ and ‘button sewers’ in my ever growing cottage industry.

A few years ago we got involved in the humanitarian project named Livslust (translates "Joy of Life" www.livslust.com) in Latvia. We take great pleasure in helping this wonderful program make it possible for young people to get a better start in life.

A great big heartful thanks to Chris Layrock, Monica Wiegert, Sally Hawkins, Kim Ellis, Kathy Dodson, Jean Stanwick, Lynda Hawkins, Cheryl Jiles, Karen Schwenker, Jill Buck Smith, Sue Weber, Sue Reid, Ann Stewart, Liga Landisa, Anta Birkenstierna, and Irena Petunova! Without your excellent quality work and fantastic efforts over the years, Margareta Horn Designs would be nothing today!
